Mackintosh Teams from the 1980s

Brian North is obviously a very well-known name around our club. He has done a lot of shooting over the years and he has quite a collection of stuff relating to his exploits. Brian was good enough to share some of that material, so it can be shown to a wider audience.

Some of our older members might like to set themselves a wee challenge. Have a look below at a the Winchester booklet from the 1981 Australian Trap & Skeet Championships and see how many names you can put to the faces. No cheating, don't look at the captions until you've given it a real shot. There are two Wang club members there for you to find.

Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

Brian also provided a photo of the 1989 Winchester Trap Team. There is no caption for that one, so see who you can spot. I reckon that might be our Brian fifth from the left in the back row.

He's a dark horse, that Brian. Who'd have guessed that he was into poetry. Well, at least the poetry of the great Donald Mackintosh. Brian passed on copy of Mackintosh's little ditty about the secrets of successful shooting.

Our club has lost another person close to our hearts. Dianne Glenister, daughter of Ernie Williams, passed away yesterday, Saturday the 1st of October. Dianne and her husband Mike were integral parts of what one might refer to as Ernie's team.

Family was the foundation of everything to that team and, to the benefit of all of us, our club was considered part of that extended family. With heavy hearts we once again bid farewell to a member of our family.

Ernest Gardiner Williams

24 July 1921 ~ 15 September 2022

It is with great sadness that the Committee of the Wangaratta Clay Target Club informs the shooting community of the passing of Ernie Williams, a universally respected and much loved member of our club. Ernie was an inspirational figure at the club and his unceasing efforts and his wisdom made it a better place.

Ernie's family have been in contact with the club's President and Vice President and have urged them to continue with the club's usual competitions and practice activities. Anyone who knew Ernie would agree that he would be quite cross to think that others were changing schedules or making a fuss on his behalf.
